WE WON!—San Diego Film Festival

Apartment 206 won Best Short at the San Diego Film Festival!!! What a fantastic, top-notch fest. Jon and I drove down to San Diego on Thursday, checked in and attended the Chairman's Reception at Design Within Reach. There, we met fellow filmmakers over Margarita's and Tequila shots and made good friends with Michelle, from the screenwriters conference and Cathy and Robin from the Boulder Film Festival. After the mixer, we caught a Peter Falk film, then went to Side Bar for another party.

The next day we caught both comedy shorts blocks, which had really high caliber films in them. We screened Friday afternoon at 4pm in a program called Drama Scenes. All 4 films in this group were great. In fact, this was the best block we've ever been part of. The film looked and sounded amazing on the big screen. There were about 80-100 people in the theater and "Apartment 206" got one of its best responses yet.

That night we went to an Industry mixer on the rooftop of Hotel Solmar. We met up again with the filmmakers from Strategem, Long Brown Coat, Redirect, Unsuitable, plus-—we met some wonderful San Diegans mixing and mingling with the filmmakers.

We had a second screening on Saturday, at 12 noon. Producers, Charleen and Jeremy, came down and attended. My friend Louise (from San Diego) also came out to see the film. There were slightly fewer people in the Saturday screening, but still—we got an enthusiastic applause. Jon and I, along with directors, Toby Wilkins and Franklin jin Rho, answered questions from the audience. Afterwards, Jon, Louise, Toby and I all went out for Thai food, then I caught up with Louise in the filmmaker's hospitality suite while Jon saw another block of dramatic films.

Right after sunset , Charleen, Jeremy, Jon and I took a stroll by the Harbor. We wandered through Seaport Village and had dinner. Then we all changed into formal-wear for the big gala: the Actor's Ball and awards ceremony on the roof of the Marriott Hotel. At the ball we met up with all the friends we had made and were excited to see our actor, Troy Bishop (who played Conrad) and his wife Brandy (who we all met for the first time). The awards ceremony got under way. They gave a lifetime achievement award to Joan Collins and honored Joaquin Phoenix and Collin Hanks. When they announced "Apartment 206" won best short film, I went up and made a speech, thanking everyone who was involved in the film and the San Diego Film Festival for their incredible hospitality and for recognizing and encouraging us.
